Protesters blocked the cycling race from the very start of the stage, forcing riders to cycle around a banner which they held up in the middle of the road. And at the finish line in Bil Bao, the race was called off as police confronted the protesters. Cycling times were frozen 3 km from the finish line and no stage winner was declared. I think sport is there to bring joy to people. I understand that we are going through a very difficult time that is causing all of us to suffer. I hope it doesn’t affect the VA. Police eventually contained the protesters and several officers were injured in the process. Waving Basque and Palestinian flags, protesters denounced the current situation in the Gaza Strip and more specifically targeted Israel Premier Tech, a cycling team in the race founded by a close associate of Benyamin Netanyahu. On the one hand, I like cycling, but people’s lives are more important. The cyclists union has condemned what it calls actions that endangered their riders safety, but the public remains divided. I agree with them that what’s happening in Palestine is a disaster, and I’m in favor of fighting for Palestinian rights, but not like this. Pro Palestinian protests have already disrupted major cycling events this year, including the tour to France and the Jiro datalia. But these incidents have been more frequent in Spain, a country known for its strong support of the Palestinian cause. During a previous stage of the Valta, activists specifically tried to block the Israel Premier Tech riders in the race.

  1. Sport cannot be indifferent to politics… or does this only work for Russia? Or do Jesse Owens actions not matter? Why not like this? everyone is seeing it all over the world.. THIS IS the way

  2. Well done with the protests. No one is hurt by doing this. It's the corporate crowd that supports these races….that have zero conscience, in regard to human lives.
