Hello guys,

I am a little frustrated about the fact that my neighbor and friend of mine gave me his keys to actually cycle his bike.

Unfortunately the first three metres gave me a reason to stop and take a look where this unreasonable sound comes from which stops the bike from moving.

Can you tell me if there is a way to fix this moving part before my friend comes back from vacation?

Thanks in advance and greeting from Düsseldorf, Germany.

Where does this moving part belong to? Urgent call for help!

  1. Its the rearwheel brake. Its supposed to be held by a clip at the lowest frame piece on the left side. Very easy fix though

  3. I think that’s the brake. It’s supposed to be connected to the tube of the frame that’s parallel with the ground. When you peddle backwards it will cause your back wheel to lock up thus bringing you to a stop.

  4. This arm needs to be fixed to the lower chainstay. If you look closely, you might notice that the silver clamp supposed to hold it fixed to the blue tube, has broken off. You can see the dirt residuals on the lower tube.

It needs to be fixed to the frame to ensure the rear brake (acitvated by back pedaling) works. If used like that, it might damage the frame whirling around like that.

Solution quick fix: use some strong fasteners or better: a metal clamp (like for water hoses, and tie it around the silver arm and the lower tube (connect them).

Solution correctly: go to a bike shop and ask for the proper clamp.

  5. A hose clamp will work. Your local hardware store should have “p clamps”. You might try a zip try if you’re posting from the side of the road
