Hey,

I want to install a centered Bag on my Ortlieb Quick Rack.

And since I want to do some hiking inbetween the biking hours, I would like to have Backpack Straps on this Bag to take it with me.

Now Ortlieb has this one in stock:

But it's expensive and puts the weight on only one side of the bike.

Is there any solution, that I can put a Bag on the Top of the Quick Rack and when taken off, it doubles as a Backpack?

Something like this:

But bigger and in a better quality + comaptible with the Ortlieb system.

Does anyone have a tip for me? 🙂

Thanks very much 🙂

I sometimes use a drybag that came with my Vaude front bag mount, as a trunk bag, strapped onto it. It has a removable shoulder belt and is easy to carry around on back. Could be mounted as a standard bikepacking saddle pack or a front bag.

Amazon has alternatives for the bag you are looking for, but imo those are small:

I cannot imagine the trunk bag would be comfortable to hike with, I think it’d do fine for short trips when off of the bike but I wouldn’t want to hike with a rigid cross body/shoulder strap bag.

Is the use case here to take short hikes *while bikepacking*, or just to ride your bike to a place you want to hike, do the hike and then cycle home?

If you’re bikepacking want want a bag to do short hikes with I’d either go for a large hip pack, either one that has a hydration bladder or two bottle pockets and use that for your hikes, or a packable backpack that’ll pack down really small and come out only when you hike.

Presumably if you’re mid trip you’d be leaving the majority of the stuff with your bike (hopefully somewhere safe).

If you wanted to cycle somewhere for a day hike though, I’d just pick a backpack and voile strap it to the top of the rack.

Find a drybag backpack, the good ones made of tarp fabric(it is more rigid)….use voile straps to attach it to the rack. Simple, multipurpose. Also it keeps your stuff dry when you hike. And if you swim you can wear it.
