Did a great loop in the Truckee-Tahoe area by combining portions of the Bones to Blue and Tahoe Twirl routes.

Took the big starting loop around Truckee area from B to B as a day 1, then a shorter day from Truckee to Incline Village, followed by a good one down the east side of Lake Tahoe from Incline to an alpine camping spot at Star Lake, a great descent to South Lake Tahoe and a bike path/road ride up to just past Tahoe City. Camped on forest service land that eve with a short ride back into Truckee as a final morning.

Most of the route after day 1 used sections of the Tahoe Rim Trail. Some fantastic descents that were actually fun to shred! Also some hard but reasonable climbing. We figured we would rather ride more singletrack around Truckee (B to B) than take the ride out to Reno and then climb up Mt Rose (Tahoe Twirl). On the back end, we took the Twirl exit after passing Homewood, as we just didn’t feel like adding two additional 600m climbs on the final day and a half. It was a vacation!

Inevitable – this would be possible on a drop bar gravel bike but very, very shitty. We were both on hard tails with large forks and found we could actually rip the descents, even fully loaded.

Solid trip, kudos to the wild folks who rip these routes in a single push!
