Day 3 of our bikepacking journey across Austria was our longest day so far — nearly 80 km of riding from the alpine lake of Traunsee through the hills and farmlands of Upper Austria, gradually descending toward the Danube valley.

We started the morning near Gmunden, with the calm waters of Traunsee behind us and the rising sun lighting up the peaks. The first stretch took us through quiet country roads and small towns, with almost no traffic — just us, the sound of tires on pavement, and the occasional church bell in the distance.

As we left the mountains behind, the landscape began to flatten. Fields replaced forests, and the architecture subtly shifted from alpine to more central Austrian. The ride was long but smooth, with only a few climbs and plenty of rolling hills to keep things interesting.

By the time we reached the Enns region, we were tired but happy — 80 km of fresh air, open roads, and beautiful countryside behind us. Day 3 marked a real transition point in the journey: from mountains to river plains, from lakes to land.
