Trying to swap the back wheel on this three speed with another sturmey archer hub wheel . However the new axle is shorter leaving me no thread to fit the shifter chain guide. Will it shift terribly or not at all without it? Any advice is greatly appreciated

Id say its fine bit im not very sure , it CAN work fine but some bike geometry will make things harder . On a side note , is that a vintage internal hub?
I’ve seen set-ups without that piece. Just keep the area cleaned and lightly lined.
