Hi!
First time posting here.
I had my local bike shop adjust my bent rear derailleur because it was causing issues.
Yesterday I took it to a gravel race, and I noticed immediately that the problem was not fixed at all. I figured I would stay away from the lowest gear and give at a go anyway. Should have checked it thoroughly beforehand, that’s on me.
However, after about 18 km and only 3 km of gravel the rear derailleur broke off completely, got pulled back over the rear cog and through the frame. Now it’s completely stuck and entangled. Never seen anything like that lol.
Anyway, I’m looking for a replacement and I need some advice. It’s a shimano 105 rd-5701. I don’t know if it’s “-GS” or “-SS” or what that really means. Attached is a picture of the damage and I found this page detailing the specifics on the bike. Nothing has been changed on it otherwise.

Can anyone help me figure out what I can replace this with?
Ty in advance
Ps. Not a bike mechanic and not a native English speaker. Excuse me if misidentify parts or terms. Google is helping me though.

Looks like you will need a new derailleur hanger and derailleur (Hard to tell from the picture if your bike has direct mount or not in which case the derailleur comes with a hanger attached which goes directly on your frame). The hanger is a little piece of aluminum which the derailleur mounts to and is usually specific for every bike / brand but you generally can find them online. For the derailleur i recommend just getting the same brand / model to not have any issues.
As for what happened here is the chain still intact? If the chain didnt break and pull the derailleur forward and you didnt hit any obstacles with the derailleur the limits on the derailleur were probably not set correctly by the shop (And the derailleur “fell” into the spokes and the spokes janked the derailleur off) and the shop should replace this for you as they didnt provide proper service imo.

It’s how long the derailleur cage is. Both can clear a 11-28 cassette. The SS is for a 2X crankset while the GS is a longer cage and is for a triple crankset. If you’re exceeding the limits of the rear derailleur through using a larger than 11-28 cassette, then you also want the GS.
You can replace that rear derailleur with any
* not-GRX
* and not-Tiagra 4700
* 8sp, 9sp, or 10sp
* road
* Shimano
rear derailleur. Each of those caveats is important.
Or you can replace that with a Shimano 8sp or 9sp MTB rear derailleur while you’re at it and get clearance for larger cassettes.
[5700 RDs](https://www.lordgun.com/shimano-105-rd-r7000-gs-rear-derailleur-1?option=34830&destination=USA¤cy=USD) are still available NOS. And the used market is FULL of inexpensive compatible ones.
Since you’re uncertain and I don’t know where you’re at, look at what’s available, link to it here, tag me, and I’ll tell you if it will work or not. Also tell us what crankset and cassette you have.
I dont see too many details about the dereilleur so i wont comment on it but the dereilleur hanger can be replaced.
To find the dereilleur hanger go here: [https://www.marwi-eu.com/gh-list-staiger-framemodels.php](https://www.marwi-eu.com/gh-list-staiger-framemodels.php)
Above the list on the right is a PDF icon that says “download all 1:1”.
Check the scaling at the bottom of the page with a ruler. Alternately, zoom in on the PDF until the scale at the bottom of the page matches a ruler held up to your monitor. Then, without adjusting the scale hold your hanger up to your monitor.
Take the gear you spend the most time in and convert to single speed never have to worry about a derailleur again.
A good bike shop can help you find a replacement for a busted hangar. Enlist the help of an experienced mechanic if you can. Hangers can be tricky.
