Subscribed to a Bike Forums post about drop bar conversions on vintage MTBs 10-15 years ago but life got in the way. Fast forward to 2025 with a desire to take up another tinker hobby that'll also help me be more active with my kids, this project finally came into fruition.
As I progressed through my build over the past month or two and started looking through this sub more and more, I realized I was putting together a very stereotypical r/xbiking bike, almost comically so.
Ran into a few snags along the way that led to some unexpected costs that could have probably been avoided with more research, knowledge, or less trust in Claude.ai's ability to identify incompatibilities. We still got here in the end. It's pretty much done for now. Maybe I'll add some racks later to really get the full xbiking experience and have someone ask "what rack is that?"
Feel free to let me know what I screwed up on. This'll be it for me until I stumble across an underpriced Ti frame in my size.

What wheels did you end up getting to run that dinner plate setup?
Beautiful glow-up! The teal was a great choice of accent color. Only suggestion I’d have is that the hoods look pretty high up on the bar. But just ride the heck out of it and listen to your body, it’ll tell you where to make adjustments!
