Since I have learned a lot from this group, felt I would post to try to give back.

Yesterday I mounted the new Ortleib Quick Rack L on my Large size Lauf Seigla, with stock Goodyear 50 mm tires…

The background here is previously I mounted the Ortleib Quick Rack (normal size) on another bike with an aluminum frame and rack mounts (Giant Revolt 2) but when I switched to this all-carbon bike with no rack mounts I had a dilemma. The 50 mm tires are much larger (the Giant had 38s) and the normal sized rack wouldn't fit. Nor did I have any easy way to mount it as Ortleib says not to use their seat stay mounts on carbon frames.

Then I saw that Ortleib was coming out with a thru-axle you can mount to, plus two larger sizes (L and XL) of the rack, and I waited. (I am in California — it seems these new things have been available in Europe for a few months now). Noticed the other day that REI had both the thru-axle and the L size rack on sale so decided to give it a try.

The result turned out well, to my eyes. The L rack gives enough room for the big tires on this bike. And it is mounted to the thru-axle, which was easy to install. Wheels here are 700c. Just for reference. Hope this is helpful.

(Obviously the headline should read "Lauf" not "Leif" but I don't see how to edit the headline…)

  1. Beautiful cleareance. Here in Brazil it’s not very easy to find good racks, but I’m very likely to import them.

  2. I wanted to order the quick rack L during REI’s labor day sale but they only have the regular.

Currently have 37mm tires on my gravel bike and plan to upgrade to 45mm next year.

using sks speed rocker fenders so I wanted the extra room of thr L.

The rack will arrive in a couple days along with the 4L top tube bag. Very excited to use them.

My current bontrager rack is a bit cumbersome to move around bikes… It has so many bits and spacers. And the aliexpress top tube bag turned into a fishbowl my last ride in the rain.

Just so you know, you’ve got the piece that the rod (coming from the seatpost) attaches to upside down, I’m also not 100% sure but I think the angle you have the rod at might be near exceeding the 30 degrees that ortlieb recommends (Section 3.1 of the manual)

I’d attach it to the seat tube instead, will look cleaner too.
