I'm building a MTB around this early 2000s magnesium frame. There is a 5M bolt above the bottom bracket shell that I imagine was for fixing one of those front derailleurs that attaches around the bottom bracket. I will be using a 1×11 drivetrain. Is there any use I can put this screw to?

Instead of a front mech, how about a chain guide?
I imagine you could find a chain guide that uses the front derailleur mount. Perhaps use a bolt with a lower profile head.
I would get a pack of plastic frame plugs if you’re not going to use it. You can use the extras on other unused threaded holes instead of bolts.
Could the bolt have to do with stopping the chain from jamming between the cranks/chainrings and the frame?
