Buckle up for another epic grind with our unstoppable group on Day 2 of the Rat Race Iceland Coast to Coast expedition – pushing deeper into the wild heart of Iceland’s highlands! 🚴♀️❄️
Dive into the action as we tackle a grueling 78 km (48-mile) bike stage, weaving between the massive icecaps of Hofsjökull and Langjökull, bound for the dramatic Kerlingarfjöll Highland mountains. Starting from our highland camp, we hammer gravel roads and tracks across a vast lava plateau, hitting a peak elevation of 900m with 600m of total ascent. This monster day dishes out relentless winds, potential dust storms from the ash, and jaw-dropping views of glaciers, geothermal spots, and endless volcanic expanses that scream “adventure overload.” It’s all about endurance, strategy, and soaking in that surreal isolation as we prep for tomorrow’s rafting thrill by linking up with guides near the mighty Þjórsá River.
We’re no elite squad – just passionate explorers on MTB’s, armed with GPS for those tricky turns and backed by Rat Race’s top-notch pit stops for fuel and fixes. Witness the sweat, strategy sessions, and side-splitting group banter that keep us rolling through the highs (literally) and lows. This leg ramps up the intensity in our 250+ mile north-to-south saga across the Land of Fire and Ice, mixing killer biking with upcoming hikes and whitewater rushes.
