The shifting works but doesn't always click, other than that the bike works fine. A lot of rust everywhere. What needs to be done for this? Is it worth it to put some time into this?
Very likely, I don’t know if there’s much wrong with it, I see the frame is rusted, but I don’t know how much.
The hub is likely aluminium, the rust is from the spokes, so check those, to see if it’s just surface rust, new spokes and nipples are cheap.
The chin is loose, so wheel has to be pulled back a little until it’s snug. That’s what the sliding drop outs are for.
That rack is beefy. And it’s mounted to the axle, so can take a heavy load. I suspect over 20 kg.
The tyres look like they are in good shape.
I see it has a dynamo front hub. Whoch the lights are connected to.
Things to do:
Inspect the frame, look for cracks, or too bad rust.
Remove the sea post, clean and grease the seat tube and seat post so it won’t get stuck.
Inspect the headset, it might need grease. If jus loose tighten it.
Check for chain wear.
I spec chainring and cog.
Check for play in bottom bracket, cranks.
Inspect spoke nipples, spokes.
Inspect tyres, they look like in decent shape from these angles, but I don’t know how they look like on the other side.
Do bolt check.
Check if the brakes work properly, adjust wire tension if needed, if you have chain pliers, use them to tighten the nut on the barrel adjuster at the lever.
Chcek if the brake arms are correctly adjusted the screws on the side adjust how far in or out they go, so when they are even on both sides it perfect, pads should be 1mm away from the rim.
If wheels are rubbing they need truing.
Wheels need to eb trued from time to time , it of course varies how you ride and on the wheel. Might be a few times in a year.
For mountain biking once a month if riding a lot.
So you will likely not need to true it as much on this type of a bike. I fyou need to true it very often something is wrong.
I suspect he air loads might contribute some, but even on grocery getter I don’t have to true it as often. But I rod eit less despite the heavy loads.

Oil everything and change chain. Check tyres. At minimum, dismount them, clean, and mount again if they look then good. Grease all axles. This with anything old or will break with a bit of use going ugly.

It’s a shimano nexus inter 7 so maybe parts are available through a good lbs or shimano.
