Currently I have a Triban GRVL520 in size M. I have been having some shoulder issues with that bike as the reach seems too long. I went for a bikefit and got a slightly shorter stem (70mm now), but it’s still a bit too long. At the same time, I rode that bike for 2300km and would want an upgrade. I tried the Giant Defy Advanced 0 and really liked it. The size S seemed very comfortable to me, but it’s not my size. I am 178cm tall with an inseam of 82cm and an arm length of 67cm, but the size M of the Giant was definitely too long. What do you think? Should I go for the size S if it felt fine, even if it’s a size down?

I had the same thing with the giant defy (I’m the same height as you) – we are right on the border between sizes. To me the small felt slightly cramped, especially in the drops.
It’s personal preference at the end of the day, but it’s a big decision to make without a day riding the bikes properly… So I bought a Scott Addict instead where I was bang in the middle of a size!
