Back the locknut off (the knurled ring) then unscrew the two parts, they can be very stiff on occasion.

Try shifting the gear to the one with the lowest tension (forget if that’s 1 or 3)
Also its two pieces if you weren’t aware. Loosen the small donut first, then you can loosen then gear cable. Should all be doable by hand.
