  1. My dude, lack of use is exactly what you’re looking for in a used bike! What you don’t want are clapped out tires, clapped out cables, clapped out chain, clapped out gears, clapped out brake pads, and clapped out rims.

As far as I know, the most common things to happen with age are just cracks in the tires or rust on the chain and cables so look for those and replace if necessary. Otherwise garage finds are great.

  2. Based on a recent “garage find” from 2018 that was “meticulously maintained” I ended up having to replace tire, tubes, cassette, chain, and rear rotor/pads. $400 later I have a great bike, but after a $100 prepurchase inspection I talked them down a couple hundred bucks.

That is likely a 2017 Cannondale Synapse Carbon 105 and would have, you guessed it, 105 components. 50/34 crank and 11-sp 11-32 cassette.

At that price and likely condition, a good price but not crazy exceptional. Obviously want to confirm before buying.
