With the opening of the new cycleway along the Royal canal from Drumcondra to Phibsboro you can now safely cycle from Dorset street to Castleknock, some 8km. There you hit the Deep Sinking which is not safe to cycle but a 3km diversion will take you to Coolmine where you can rejoin the canal bank as it heads for the Shannon.
I recorded this in Timelapse so it only takes a few minutes to show you the entire 8km – check the channel for more videos cycling the canals from Dublin.

Is some of that fenced off now to block the asylum seekers tents ?
Great video.. liked the time lapse at the start
Nice video, thanks for the interesting facts too along the way.
Fair play, this was cool to see. Your route in this forms a good part of my commute to work. I'd really love if they widened and improved the surface between the 7th and 8th locks.
So essentially the castleknock station->last brigde before clonsilla station leg is a bit risky, and the best diversion is through town (either Clonsilla road or the estate south of it and then eventually you'll be on the Clonsilla road anyway)?
