Hey all, new here and new to cycling. Trying to buy my first bike as I begin to hopefully make my way towards and Ironman 70.3. I found this bike on FB Marketplace in my area and it seems to be a good deal, I already met the guy and took it for a quick spin but want to get other opinions on if they would pull the trigger. Here is some of the other info on it:
β€˜08 Cervelo P3C. 56cm.

Fairly new Continental Super Sport Tires
Shimano Dura-Ace Mechanical, runs and shifts smooth
FSA Chainring, Dura Ace Cranks
3T bars, brand new Fizik Bar Tape
Fizik Seat

I can get it for around $1,000. Let me know what you think! πŸ™πŸ»

  1. Pass. I would never spend $1k on a carbon bike that’s creeping up on 20 years old. Maybeeee $700, but I feel like you’ll come across a better deal soon

How experienced a rider are you, because that is a pure TT bike and not die the novice rider. You are better off buying a regular road bike and strapping some aero extensions on it.

Generally I wouldn’t suggest getting a Tri bike without having had a proper bike fit first. Position is everything, and if you want to be fast you can’t just wing it with sizing and geometry.

If you don’t have much experience riding, you probably won’t be able to tell much from a quick test ride. Training is about spending hours on the bike, and you need to be comfortable enough to continue to get the power out. I would start out with a cheaper road bike, get some miles in, learn about technique and pacing for yourself. Most people don’t ride Tri bikes as a main bike, they’re generally more for events/turbo trainer. They don’t have great visibility for actual road riding and you can’t easily reach the brakes from your aero position.
