The U.S. just doubled steel tariffs to 50%, adding 407 new product categories on August 19. UK imports stay at 25% thanks to a pending trade deal.

Riese & Müller has paused all U.S. exports. What about Brompton’s steel C‑Line and G‑Line? Prices might rise again —or shipments could be delayed.

If you’ve been thinking about getting a Brompton, now might be the best time.

Thoughts — will Brompton increase prices one more time?

  1. Not an expert on economics and or tariffs, but pretty sure it’ll be tariffed as a bike, not specifically as a steel product.

Prices will rise. I guess they can start buying the only real alternative from the US: Bike Friday. Obviously bike Friday and all other bike makers across the US will raise prices to match and the increased production costs due to raw material cost.

  2. With products that have low profit margins like Brompton or any other company that pays livable wages. They won’t be able to consume that price hike and have to pass the cost to the consumer. I see a lot of items on pause for shipping to the USA whenever I shop online.
