A few days ago I purchased this old '87 hardrock. I would like some advice on how to clean and treat the frame. I would like to leave it original, but there is a bit of rust in some places. What should I do? A piece of sticker was even damaged!
Thanks in advance to anyone who responds

If you live in an environment prone to rain and moisture, and you think you’ll want to hold on to the bike for a while, consider stripping down to the frame (not necessarily absolutely everything, but most components) and treating the inside of the frame and fork tubes with something like J.P. Weigle frame saver, or an equivalent product.
Personally I would just ensure the rust visible on the outside is kept oiled- either a little spray lube, chain oil, thin smear of grease, etc. This will keep the advancement of corrosion in check. If you want to restore the bike to near new condition, then get a colour match to the now-faded paintwork, remove all rust with steel wool, wire brush, etc. clean with lab grade isopropyl (maybe even sparingly with brake cleaner) and apply paint to cover affected areas. People sell new sticker sets on eBay etc.
The rear axle could be better centered in the rear hub- look at how much extends beyond the end of the locknut on the drive side compared to not even full thread coverage on the NDS.
