Hi, I'm getting back into biking and have bought a second hand mountain bike that has a SRAM AXS X0 rear derailleur (which is awesome). I've been riding this weekend and it was shifting perfectly in all gears. I got home and took the chain and rear wheel off because I noticed the chain was very dirty.

I cleaned the cassette, removed the RD cogs and cleaned those as they were filthy and cleaned the chain and cassette thoroughly. I put the bike back together and now it is missing multiple gears through the range – it just won't change to them and micro adjustment makes no difference. Top and bottom limits are correct and again, haven't been touched.

I ordered a chain checker and I believe this picture shows the chain is toast. I can't think of anything else I've done that might affect shifting – the hanger and derailleur have not been touched other than me cleaning it since I was riding and it was shifting perfectly. I made sure that the cogs were reinstalled the correct way around.

Could a chain that was previously shifting perfectly but was very dirty have been hiding chain wear that makes it miss gears?
