I set off to do a route that I had dreamed of for a long time: Bodensee (Lake Constance) to Tegernsee. Unfortunately, due to alpine storms, I wasn't really able to do what I had planned, and had to improvise. That's probably a lesson that more experienced bikepackers have already learned, but it's a new one for me!

Anyway – Day 1 started in Konstanz after taking the train south from where I live, and proceeded to Bregenz. The route was amazing, and the Swiss cycling infrastructure was very impressive, and really allowed one to enjoy the scenery and the views. This was a really cool route, because you basically hug the edge of the lake all around to Bregenz, and can enjoy really stunning views the whole time. After Bregenz, it got quite steep…

The original plan after Bregenz, was to get to Garmisch on Day 2, but with lightning and heavy winds, I decided against it. My route was already ambitious for my skill and experience level, and I didn't want to push it too much more. So the plan changed. Instead I decided to find another accommodation nearby, and wait out the storm. I spent the night in Kempten, and the next morning, made my way to Landsberg, dodging storms showing up on the weather radar along the way.

All in all, it was far from what I had planned. I was looking forward to a sunny, dry, summer ride through a bunch of lakes, and instead I got lots of storms, fog, and clouds. It was still a great experience, and I learned a lot, but I do regret not getting to do some parts of the route that I was looking forward to: specifically riding through Plansee and the Ammergebirge, and arriving at Garmisch. That's been a dream of mine for quite a while, but I guess it'll have to wait…
