First time trying to service my Bontrager Rapid Drive 108 with Shimano Hub. Local bike shop would look at it only after 3 weeks and sooner or later I had to learn it anyway. So I gave it a try. I’m stuck after removing the rotor and the cassette.
The guys at the shop said that this type I’ll just have to pull off with my hand and that I don’t need any special tools for that. But it won’t come off, no matter how hard I try.
Am I missing something?

It’s just compression and a small o ring on the inside of the end cap holding it on. Sometimes the end cap is pretty tight on there and in my shop I have soft jaws that I use in a vise that make short work of that. The best way for you to do this at home would be to leave the cassette on the free hub and use the largest cog to pull on. The pawls are more than likely going to fall out or stick to the inside of the hub shell, but it should come off .
Put a rag over the end cap next to the driver (to keep from marring it) and use some pliers to pull it off. The driver body will pull off easily by hand after the end cap is removed. Note the pawls may come loose when you pull the driver body off – so make sure you don’t loose the pawls or springs. This video shows how it comes apart.
