I completed my first 100-mile ride today. Full focus was on not bonking and being in the saddle and finishing the distance.
I’m typing this 4 hours later, and my whole lower body hurts soooo bad. I did do an ice bath when I got home.
I did stretching and went pretty deep with the massage gun, too.
I’m drinking lots of fluids.
All the sugar I consumed is making wild amounts of gas lol (only after I finished; I didn’t feel anything while riding).
I have a slight headache and a slight fever (which I often get from strenuous activity like hiking a 14er or so).
I plan to eat and sleep a long night.

P.S. My last big ride was about 66 miles, after which I didn’t feel this bad.

What else can I do to recover better and properly?

  1. Just eat decent food.
    Drink lots of water.
Walk around a bit and try not to sit for long periods.

Don’t overthink it. You will be back on your game in a few days.

    Congratulations on the ride.

The body is not used to being pushed this hard, (66 miles, your last big ride, to 100 miles is an additional 34 miles!) so it’s letting you know. A few more Imperial Centuries and the body will slowly but surely be on the same page as you! Congratulations!

Just rest. You’ve earned it. Don’t do anything tomorrow, even if your app/trainer states ‘recovery ride/run!’ Let the body recover well enough before embarking on more exercises two days later; ease into the workouts and not going hard. After I’m done completing an Imperial Century, especially one with a lot of elevation gain, I relax and do ‘nothing’ the day after. I come out refreshed on the 3rd day…
