In this video we ride for 21 miles along the affectionally nicknamed Curly Wyrley Canal, or to give it its proper name the Wyrley and Essington Canal. We disocover the history of the canal and how to towpath is along the route from Wolverhampton to Bloxwich, Walsall, Pelsall and Aldridge. We then head onto the Rushall Canal, The Tame Valley Canal, The Walsall Canal, The disused Bradley Canal, The Wednesbury Oak Loop before finishing the ride on the Birmingham main line canal, all completely traffic free for 35 miles!

  1. Another great video thank you. I ride this route lots of times. The aqueduct above the M5 was used quite a bit in the series This Town recently shown on TV. Also the junction of the Curly Wyrley and Birchills was the scene of a major blast at the Birchills Iron Works where Sister Dora played a major part in saving lives. Keep these coming Cycling N8

  2. Excellent video will be trying this very soon , maybe this Friday. I have not been out as far as Wolverhampton , and my start will be from The Walsall Arboretum . Just before Daw End you missed The Manor Arms , the pub with no bar , excellent beers and my watering hole before heading the last couple of miles home

  3. Another fantastic video I notice you seem to film on possibly a insta 360 camara as you hold your arm out, I have 360 and use the bike out mount that way you just sit and ride lol. 28:04

  4. Thanks a lot for the video! Just under a couple of months ago, inspired in no small part by your channel, I got myself my first bike after years and years without riding – a gravel bike particularly for rides like this. I don't think I could hack this 35-mile ride just yet, but today I had my first crack at a ride from around Wyrley down to Sneyd Junction and all the way along the canals to Birmingham. Sadly it was cut short by a puncture about 5 miles from the city centre just after joining the New Main Line, but it's still my longest single ride so far, so I'm pleased with that. The ride in the video is definitely going on my list for the future, although I don't enjoy the rough bits of towpath quite as much as you, having been from Sneyd Junction towards Wolves before!

  5. Can I ask on your route is there any Locks ? The reason I ask is I’ve just retired and although I have a bike I’ve bought a kayak so I would love to do the route on the canals aswell as riding.thanks very much, good video .

  6. Wolverhampton is a hole in general but just behind where you started is going to become a new housing development called canalside south so should maybe look a bit better in a few years

  7. Britain has a remarkable network of canals ! I follow a YouTuber who has lived in a Narrow Boat for years. That channel discusses the many stresses that the canals are attempting to endure. Hopefully they will. I clicked your Garmin link and am able to see your "Course" on my Garmin. I could even "send it to my device": Pretty amazing technology these days. I live in Atlanta though. Excellent video! Thanks for sharing.

  8. Another great video. Thanks for putting this one together I'll definitely be riding it, lovely to be able to do so much riding locally to me without encountering any traffic. I've just bought you a coffee as I really appreciate the komoot/GPX files
