In this video I will break down why I believe Switzerland is the best place to cycle in the world. Notably, I am talking about riding a road bike (or is this case the call-new 2025 BMC Teammachine SLR01 bikes) in the mountains. The four areas I will touch on to prove this point are 1/ Safety 2/ Scenery 3/ Road quality 3 / Food & coffee. I will share more own anecdotal experiences while bringing up research data to prove the argument that Switzerland wins 3 out of the 4 criteria. I have also included climbing in the scenery section as I cam conscious many road cyclists want to challenge themselves (with climbing) when they are picking a cycling holiday destination.

  1. Please note I was among the very first creators to receive the new Insta360 Ultra. Thus, the firmware was not yet the official version at the time of filming. Some issues, such as slight redness or overexposure when shooting portraits have now been fixed in the official firmware release. Cheers, Cam

  2. As a local (from the french-speaking part) there are indeed very quiet places like the routes you rode but not all of the country is like that. There are plenty of scares and conflicts mostly in/around cities but also some passes are notorious for motorists driving full gas. There's no denying we have many great landscapes though.

  3. Great picture quality! Quite amazing coming from an action cam!! Yeah stunningly beautiful scenery, great roads. And a great place to survive the apocalypse. lol Although think I'll make sure I take a packed lunch as otherwise might get bankrupted by some soft drinks…

  4. One of the great regrets of my life is not taking advantage of the cycling in Switzerland. I was posted to Bern for 4 years and was always going to Thun, Interlaken, and Grindelwald (and many other places you didn't mention that are just as spectacular). But in those days I was a hiker, skier, and runner… not a cyclist… I only came to that later. Yes I had a great time experiencing those places, both summer and winter, but I now curse myself for missing out on 4 years of amazing rides. Drat. I need to plot another posting to Switz.

  5. No, it is not. It is for sure cool when a manufacturer invites you to ride on new bikes, during a working day, on a preselected route, during summer school break when a lot of people are abroad. On a weekend you would have a different experience, connect that with trying to get to your route, jumping on and off the disconnected bike paths and being passed closely by cars. Scenery is cool, but you get all that plus much more thought out bike paths and much more polite riders in the french alps. No need to mention the prices in Switzerland, those make no sense.

  6. Switzerland is boring AF plus it's bloody expensive. Italy is way, way better. If you want lakes just go over the border and you'll have the sensationally beautiful Lake Annecy plus all the great French alpine climbs nearby.

  7. The Interlaken area is one of my favourite places in the world. I haven't watched to the end yet but I assume you are going to mention the cost of everything there!

  8. Agreed about the quality of riding in Switzerland: it's sublime. The cost can be much but you were also in summer resort country, so the costs will be a bit inflated. Go to a major city (e.g. Zürich or Geneva) and it's not quite as bad (tho still more pricey than, say, Italy or France). The Swiss franc is still a strong currency.

  9. Swiss here 😎 and what always surprised me here is how crazy even for a small road in the middle of nowhere, it will be perfect or brand new 🤯
By the way, around Montreux you will find some crazy tours with absolutely stunning views 🫶

  10. I've got a friend who is an ex pro cyclist and she moved their some 10 years or so ago and she said the car drivers are some of the worst in Europe (Italians being the worst) but once you get away from the traffic (she lives in the Canton of Zug) it truly is an amazing place to ride and like in your video breathtaking views with smooth roads. BTW I am very jealous of you getting to ride the new BMC. Great video too.

  11. I can only agree. The prices are high that's true, but Grindelwald is such a tourist town. You could have gone to a supermarket there and it would have been about 5 to 6 CHF for the two drinks and snickers.

  12. I agree with Switzerland being one of the most pretty countries in the world to cycle. I am there right now, riding the Tour des Stations tomorrow. Please note though: Switzerland is quite expensive, being about 30% or more expensive compared to other European countries. Both in groceries and in accommodation. For the best coffeestops in the world you need to go visit Thailand. That's an amazing country both cycling wise and coffee wise.

  13. If you loved that, you gotta ride Klausenpass and then continue the Pragelpass to get back to where you started. After that you go to Flüelapass from Susch and go through Davos and continue to Albulapass and go back to Susch. Love it here.

  14. My son has lived in the Brig/Visp area in Canton Valais Switzerland since 2007. We are from the U.S. and have had the opportunity to visit him twice in the intervening years and I’ve been able to ride with him several times. With my wife along more of our time was spent doing the tourist thing but cycling or car/train touring the country is unbelievably beautiful and tidy.

  15. I live in Thun. Thank you for the nice video. You made excellent route choices, congrats to your guide.
Regarding restaurant prices: just buy at the supermarket and eat on a park bench outside. Locals have adjusted their consumption patterns long ago: restaurants are for special occasions only – like when you get soaked and really need to warm up inside. Or for winter riding.
