So I’ve recently purchased a huffy mountain bike from a thrift store. It was $50, it was a steal for me, when I’ve been wanting so badly recently and easier to get this one than a brand new one for couple hundred. So my reasoning for this post is that the beaks are shot. They are a “power cantilever brake system.” Neither the front nor the back seem to squeeze hard enough to make any difference when riding. The pads appear to not need changing and I would love to fix this on my own however, I’m finding it really hard to find all the parts. I’ve been using YouTube to help fix whatever other problems it had (popped back tire, loose handlebars) but can’t seem to find the right fix for these brakes. For anyone who is experienced in bike repairs, is there anything I can do to fix the brakes I already have or should I just switch them out entirely? And either way, what’s the best place to go and buy the parts? Any help and advice would be much appreciated. I’ll provide photos of the bike brakes.
