Currently looking at 2 bikes on fb marketplace , both for 1000£. I ride mostly trails and am handy enough on a bike. Need help deciding because I love both to be honest. One is a marin alpine trail Xr 2023 and other is Nukeproof scout 290 v3. Marin is stock apart from the handlebars and dropper, Nukeproof is fairly customised. Can provide the specs if anybody is interested.

Prob the full suspension but these seem like odd choices for cross shopping.
The Marin !
Without knowing a full spec list, it’s the marin all day.
But if you’re a real man or real woman, you’ll go for the handrail.
Marin, always wanted one like that. Im shure that thing shred’s if its dubble coilled
Very different bikes. One of those is an Enduro sled, the other is a swiss army knife hardtail
I had a Marin (hard tail) a few year ago. I don’t regret much in life but selling that bike is up there. Whichni could remember the model.
The Scout will climb better but it will beat the shit out of you on the trails the XR will eat for breakfast
I’m a full suspension guy, you can always lock it out if you want to beat yourself up
Not knowing anything about the kind of riding you’re gonna be doing and as someone who owns both kinds of bike I’d take the hardtail. It’s gonna be way easier to pedal uphill if you ever have to, can do most if not everything the fs can do, and will be much easier to maintain. I find myself taking my hardtail out more often because it’s wayyy better to be underbiked than overbiked and plus you get mountain cred for being crazy and skilled enough to take a hardtail down black trails.
They are for different types of riding. The Marin is for downhill/freeride. The other bike is an XC bike
