I was going 20+ MPH downhill at the highest gear when I hear a noise and my pedals got stuck. I stop immediately, somehow not crashing, to see this mess. The bolts holding the chainring were loose and pretty much fell off causing it to get hooked on the chain, which bent my front derailleur and mangled it. I ended up tying it to the bikering to the bike using the velcro from my bottle holder lol, and bending the derailleur back into place so I can finish my ride and make it home hah.
I guess I have a single speed bike now. 🙂

That bike is from the 70s. Nothing lasts forever.
Hey man, it’s not supposed to do that.
Perhaps some thread locker (medium strength) would be in order next time around. Glad you’re ok.
Is that the new “asymetric oval” chainring everyone is raving about??
Blue Loctite is your friend
Back in the 80s I always used to lose a chainring bolt or two.Â
Haven’t lost one in 40 years now.Â
You now have a biopace chainring, congrats
