Oxford Street is about to undergo one of the most ambitious public realm transformations London has seen in decades.🚶🌳

Two design teams will soon be appointed to reimagine the ‘nation’s shopping street’ – from wider pavements and new planting to safer cycling routes and, crucially, large-scale pedestrianisation.

At VU.CITY, we know that projects of this scale succeed when decision-makers can clearly visualise what change will mean for people, businesses, and the city as a whole. By simulating designs in 3D, planners and stakeholders can test ideas, explore alternatives, and ensure Oxford Street remains a vibrant cultural and commercial destination while becoming more accessible, sustainable, and welcoming.

Public consultation shows 69% support for pedestrianisation. The challenge now is designing a public space that works for everyone – from daily commuters and local residents to visitors from around the world.

This video shows Oxford Street as it is today….. The starting point from which its transformation will take shape!

If you could add one feature to Oxford Street’s redesign, what would it be?
