I was considering stocking up on 11 speed cable actuated stuff because everything is going electronic.

  2. I have a box of Trek/Bontrager 29+ tires I got at 50% off when they blew them out. Word is they are not making them any more and I love the XR2 & XR4s. I have 2 dedicated 29+ bikes and one bike that’s 29+ capable so I didn’t want to have to hunt for tires. The lower than normal cost was nice even if the reason for it was not great.

I have a stash of various flared dirt drop handlebars because they DO go in and out of production.

  4. Installed some of those last year. The elusive 27×1-3/8 width. Hey while you’re at it maybe stock up on a 3/8” 26tpi cromo axle.

I’ve standardised all my builds on 10 speed, but with the Tiagra 4700 pull ratio. That means I can use all Shimano 11 speed derailleurs so there should be a supply for some time. Some pretty recent standards are already rare/low selection though, like QR disc wheels

I wish I had a big box of Vittoria hyper voyagers but alas no longer in production.

  7. If you want some slicks in that size, Swifttire has some. They’re made by Panaracer and are basically wider Paselas.

  8. I just put on a stashed Michelin Pro Race 4 Endurance tire and it appears to have dryrotted which kinda bummed me out.

I used too, but saw something on Reddit about hording being a symptom of insanity.

I don’t want anyone knowing I’m batshit so now I only keep 2 dozen extra tires hidden under the stairs.

I’m still sitting on a handful of 24″ BMX tires since they’re so hard to find and I’m always afraid Odyssey is going to cut them

Shimano R8000 chainrings and derailleur hangers. Extra future shock boot for my 2017 Roubaix

Not tires and grips, they’ll deteriorate just sitting around in your basement for long enough. Am on the fence about ordering several entire groupsets just in case I ever want to do a build around them.

  13. I wish I would have bought every pair of 26×1.75” ritchey z max’s back in the day

  14. Good reminder that I need to stock up on Shimano 1055 and 6400 parts.

For anyone interested, both are early 1990s 8-speed, when Shimano started making integrated shifters for road bikes. I like them because I can pull absolutely everything apart on the Shifters and regrease when necessary, without the worry of damaging plastic parts.

I have bought extra parts for the sake of knowing that either they will be no longer made or not be available. The cost of purchasing them will undoubtedly go up over time.

  16. I’m buying tubes whenever I find NIB at the thrift store for under $3. I can not believe how much shops are charging these days.

Back pre-covid, when blowouts were more common, I stocked up on $1.99 fsa 9spd chains at bikewagon.

Yes, some Schwalbe tires were so damn good that they stopped making them (nobody would need replacements).
