So I got this 20cm wide trigo rack (rx3020) which is same width as telescopic handle bar of most luggage cases. It means if you can slide your backpack onto the handle of the luggage case at airport, you can do the same on your bike.
It fits surprisingly well with my eBags backpack which can be docked both vertical and landscape. And I find landscape works better.
When bag is heavy because I carry lots of stuff, the bottom pocket is heavier than top because that’s where all my chargers and accessories go. It tends to tip towards left a bit when docking horizontally. A simple Velcro strap to tie the bags handle strap to the rack towards the right half, keeps it well balanced for longer rides (last photo). When bag has a light load or for shorter rides, this extra strap is not necessary.
I like how I can dock pretty much every backpack I have onto the bike, as long as they have that sleeve at back for luggage dock. Even for some bags that are too tall, it still works because when riding, I practically don’t really need to turn my handle bar a lot to interfere with the bag.

How are you mounting that horizontally without extra straps?
This is slick. Going to have to remember this one!
