I have an old C Line with 50T front, 13T sprocket. It has never had a chain. I brought a new chain with 98 links as per the Brompton guidance but having fitted it, it is very tight, no room for jockey wheel to be used, and as I pedal it slips (and chain doesn’t fit into all the teeth on rear sprocket)
Please help I am lost

Fold the rear wheel to give you more slack to allow you to set the tensiober.
It is clicking and slipping and quite hard to pedal. Almost like the chain doesn’t not fit the teeth on the rear sprocket
Your chain does look too short.
See this page for guidance on chain length (and type of chain). (Your bike looks to be pre-2013)

The chain seems too short, but also the sprockets seem worn and may need to be replaced. A lot of the time as the chain wears, the sprockets do too, and a new chain simply won’t fit and you need to replace the entire drivetrain.
Chain is deffo too short
