My husband and I recently went on a 3 day biking tour in Bourgogne, taking the train from Paris to Auxerre, then biking to Montigny-la-Resle to stay in a Château and taking the next couple days to bike around the vineyards, take in the views, and taste some wine. Our total biking distance ended up being just over 100km with quite a bit of climbing. Bourgogne is not flat!
Taking the train from Paris to Auxerre was easy — we took our bikes on the TER train and reserved bike spots. The Château hotel we stayed at had a lot of local vineyard and tasting recommendations for us and even helped me make reservations, so our first day consisted of jumping from vineyard to vineyard with a break for lunch overlooking a scenic valley.
Our second day was focused on exploring the Chablis city center (about 20 km from our hotel, another scenic bike ride). It's a cute town with shops, restaurants, and more tasting rooms. The Chablis wines all white, but the tasting rooms have some red and cremant wines as well from surrounding appellations. All in all, it was a great trip! I'd recommend our itinerary to anyone looking for a fun cycling wine tour. I wrote up a blog post with routes, specific stops we made, and also explain we packed for this trip and link to another post explaining how to take bikes on French trains.
