Is this stereotype actually true?! Why are Germans so crazy about bikes?

Well… turns out there are some seriously legitimate reasons as to why you should be jumping on the bandwagon too! Just like I have!

This is why I’m sharing my exciting new milestone in life with you – UNBOXING MY FIRST EVER E-BIKE!!!

If you’d like more information about the e-bike that I have, you can check out the black city e-bike on Himiway: https://himiwaybike.de/collections/himiway-electric-bike+

In this video, you’ll also get a sneak peek of my new backyard and a small tour around the neighborhood (more cows than people haha)

ABOUT ME

Hey there, I’m Jenna! A Canadian who has been living in Germany since 2014. 🇩🇪

Like many, I had a difficult time relocating – all the paperwork, making sure I wasn’t getting scammed, finding a flat, a phone plan, a job, etc. So, I took it slowly, documented all my learnings along the way, and partnered up with expats in every field so that I could help others avoid making the same mistakes I did. Let’s look at it as… PAVING THE WAY FOR NEW EXPATS TO SAVE TIME & MONEY!

I built up www.lifeinduesseldorf.com to help expats make the best out of their lives in Düsseldorf, and then soon realized a lot of the content I was sharing was helpful for ALL expats living in Germany. SO I BUILT AN ONLINE PROGRAM THAT HELPS EXPATS FROM ALL OVER THE WORLD RELOCATE TO GERMANY EASILY – WHILE ALSO HELPING TO SAVE THEM THOUSANDS OF EUROS! 🤑

… and now I’m bringing it all to YOUTUBE! ♥️

Share.

  1. HI Jenna,
Great Episode – I really enjoyed this one. Awesome filming. (nice weather helps). Looks like you guys are really living the life in Germany. (Sure beats commuting on the 401 🙂 First time I tried an e-bike was on my last holiday in Italy just before the pandemic (Sept 2019) sigh…. It was in the Piedmont wine region (Think Barolo wine) Absolutely loved the e-bike QUESTION – How far out of the City are you now?

  2. Düsseldorf? Auto kaufen?!? Bissu waaaahnsinnig?!? 😁😂

I lived in Düsseldorf roughly 25 years ago, and even then driving with a car in Düsseldorf was a good imitation of purgatory.
I can't imagine that it got any better over time. It took me more than 90 minutes with a car for a distance I could have walked in 15 minutes, but unluckily I had to transport stuff that I couldn't have carried. So unless you intend to transport large stuff regularly buy the smallest car you think is applicable.

Let's just say that Unterbilk broke all records for having my car cracked and broken into.
I stopped counting after number 17. I posted a paper sign on the inside of both my driver's and my passenger window that the passenger door was UNLOCKED because the locking cylinder had been broken into so many times that it FELL OUT. The radio wasn't worth stealing as it would only fit into exactly this car type, but it was the cheapest one delivered by the manufacturer as standard outfit. Yet still those morons broke into my driver's side lock multiple times.

  3. In the west of germany in these citys you better use a bike. But you have to take care of it. So first fix it properly….. and final ajust it correct, test and you will be happy. Ok, in Düsseldorf wird's schwierig.

  5. Hi.
    Coole Sache, das!
To scout the hood, much more intensely and faster than a car. Quiet gliding and smelling the nature is also different from riding a motor bike.
Will you girlize it and buy a pink helmet? Or will there be a new gang in the neighborhood with leather jackets and rivets: "the suburban e-bike mommis"?😎🤘 – 🤔😂
And yes, there's a bicycle driving licence. We did it in 4th grade, i think. The licence itself is a funny gag for the kiddies, but the "Verkehrserziehung" / traffic education is the serious and important part behind it.
If you slow down at the beginning and take your time to get used to it, you'll have a lot of fun, i suppose.
    Greeting

  6. Sorry that I need to say this but as a salesperson and bikeprofessionel in the branch I recognized it in the first second. That himiway is a huge pile of very, very cheap garbage parts (ok, the fork looks descent). Everything is the cheapest you can buy. You would gone way better with an 1500€ trekking bike without a motor. That would be a MUCH MUCH higher quality (nearly TOP End, not low end like the E-Bike) in every single detail of the parts, it would ride WAY easier and faster than the E-Bike. And I guess the himiways framesize is way to small for you. At least your saddle is WAY to low. Your legs need to be nearly totally straight. Spending money on that bike was WAY less then optimal. You had the choice to go for a whole much different, extremly better bike with the funds you had.

  7. Hi Jenna, congratulation to your new home and your new e-bike. My friends recently also bought e-bikes and huge locks to protect them against theft. The giant locks are almost more impressive than the e-bike itself.

  8. Hey Jenna, in an older video you expressed your love for the Ovomaltine spread 😀 I just wanted to share a recipe with you that you might like (and also with everyone else addicted to Ovomaltine)! Just learned it from a friend recently and it was a revelation for my taste buds 😀 So, you make yourself some french toast (I recommend Hefezopf or French Brioche, but you can as well use toast) and top it with (in this order): Ovomaltine Crunchy Cream, a mixture of [Mascarpone, sour cream/schmand and some drops of lemon juice] and in the end some strawberries. I died of joy when I first ate it. 😀

  9. the saddle looks to be way too low…you have to adjust it for your height…it is actually very unhealthy to ride a bike when you sit too low…especially the older you get = leads to backpain and pedaling is also way to exhausting because the power transmission from your legs to the pedals is then not efficient either at all. Over the thumb your leg should be – almost – fully streched when the pedal is on its lowest point when you sit on the bike.

Search on youtube for "Sattelhöhe richtig einstellen" in order to have then a healthy and painless bike riding experience.

  10. If you call that crazy, you should go to northwest Germany. Münster, Osnabrück, Oldenburg are all considered "biking capitals" ever since. Everybody rides a bike there. It's a normal way of getting from A to B. My grandmother stopped biking at an age of over 80.

  11. Congrats! Nice bike. The bamboo rack looks fantastic. But from the few seconds I can see you pedaling I think you have to correct the saddle hight. Your knees look a little too bent.

  12. Does riding e bike in germany streets need license or you can ride only 250 watt and 25km please let me know i want to buy one but dont know which one and how it works in Germany 🇩🇪 please reply

  13. I have a question: What do you do when the battery is empty when you are on a tour? Well, I would say then you have to pedal like before and then comes what is called untrianized. That hurts when you have to cycle in the hills or against the wind.
