Looking to get back on the bike more consistently, I was (and still am) riding an old pinnacle, and in the market for an upgrade.

Main use case would be commuting, about 20 miles a day. The odd longer Sunday ride too. I’d also like to be able to use it for a bike tour if the opportunity comes up, and my friends are talking of a London to Amsterdam trip next year. So in essence a bit of a do it all.

Is gravel the way to go here? I’m mostly on roads and paths, and at the moment don’t have that much interest in taking it off road. North London/Hertfordshire (UK) for reference.

Have done some looking around, and maybe the Trek Checkpoint ALR 5? Any other suggestions, around that price point, ~£1500 would be appreciated. Would prefer to get something where I can get it on the ride to work scheme.

Thanks!

  1. I just went through the process of buying two gravel bikes. It really seems like Trek you get the least bang for your buck. Compare the group sets and pricing. Almost every other major brand comes out ahead.
