The Transcontinental Race is a self-supported ultra-endurance bike race spanning across the European continent. This year’s edition started in Santiago de Compostela, Spain, and finished on the coast of the Black Sea in Constanta, Romania. I completed the ride in just over 13 days for 25th place. This is the setup I brought with me to ride the nearly 3,000 miles and 180,000 feet of climbing.

  1. Hey Jackson, it was great hanging out with you. Unfortunate with the tire leakage.. otherwise it would've been a great photo finish between two of us 😉

  2. Congrats on the result and your setup surviving so well!
I know not many rock them but I've found the speed and effort of a micro USB pump is something I'd not do without in a race. Its size and weight is about the same as one butyl tube. (On a multi-day I still carry a manual JiC.)
So I carry no butyl tubes anymore, one tubolito (on longer trips two) the patch kit for them and tire boots — as well as some curved needles, thread and of course super glue and duct tape!
One final note -In WARM weather, (as opposed to alpine ascents) white colored sleeves make a noticeable difference – up to a point! (ie. muggy, hot weather all bets are off!)
