Well what a first day that has been …
.
We pottered to Exeter, only to find that our train had been cancelled, and the next one on the route would have left us cutting it too fine to get the little ferry at Hamble, which would make the ride to Portsmouth a bit more complicated ..
.
But thanks to a lovely member of staff at Exeter St David’s, we found another route that could take us and the bikes, so a mad day ensued, heaving bikes on and off trains, and dashing across platforms to make tight connections…
.
What had been planned for months as a gentle train trip to Salisbury and on to Southampton turned into a mad dad across the south of England, with our stress levels through the roof…
.
But once on the bikes, with Southampton behind us, we started to breathe a bit more easily and made it to the little pink ferry at Hamble in plenty of time…
.
It’s been an exhausting, anxiety-filled day, but we are at Portsmouth waiting to board our ferry to Saint Malo and a glass of wine is in sight…
.
At least tomorrow is all about pedalling, which (hopefully) will be a little less stressful.
.
I’ll.post a blog later, once we’re on the ferry

Well, today has been an interesting day. We loaded the bikes, set off on time, and everything went as planned. The rain held off despite the clouds. And we had breakfast and arrived at St. David’s Station only to find our train had been cancelled. So, they found another one. It was a bit full, then another one. which didn’t quite fit the bikes. Then another one where we did manage to eat. Arriving at Southampton, we started heading out on the trails, finally turning the pedals, getting on the pink ferry at Hamble. Getting off the perry and pottering through all the way to Gossport where we caught another ferry, arrived in Portsmouth and are finally at Britany Fairies. It’s been quite not as planned today, but we’re here and that’s all that matters. [Music] All being well, we’ll get a good night’s sleep and start pedaling in France tomorrow. [Music]
