Still tinkering with my grocery getter. I got a trailer for my dog that I’m going to pull with this bike and wanted to make the Velo Orange Copenhagen kickstand work for ease of loading. However the Sugino cranks I was running were too narrow and would clip the kickstand on the NDS. Found some Deore cranks and am running Sugino rings I had laying around – 24/38/42. In making this change I tried some other flat bars I had, and installed these microshift thumbies I found at the co-op.

Didn’t like the reach with the flat bars, played with a 110 and 90mm stems on a threadless converter and then ended up using this old quill stem. This Giant has a 1-1/8” threadless steerer so it’s a little limiting.

But ended up going back to the Bosco for the rise and made a go at flaring them out for a little more stability. These are the cromo version so they were incredibly hard to bend. I clamped the ends between two pieces of wood in a woodworking vise and used my legs to lift. It did sort of squish at the ramp a little bit so I’ll never be sending single track but it made them way comfier and less twitchy.

Wow! It must have been hard to keep the symmetry when flaring them I reckon.
