Aldz, the most famous climb in professional cycling, but as a pure climb, it’s also the most overrated. 13.8 km at 8% with 21 switchbacks makes it a great challenge, but it’s a wide road with a lot of traffic and car fumes. Still, you can almost hear the crowds cheering through Dutch corner. You can sprint to the finish line. You can stand on the podium. At the top is a ski resort, so it’s pretty quiet in the summer, but the town below is full of tour history and memorabilia. Half the shops are bike rentals and everyone is wearing tights. If you’re a fan of the sport, the Altoz is cycling. Just don’t miss the better climbs nearby. You come for Altoz and you’ll really enjoy the Glendon Gibier or the Cold Dak where I heard your mom has a KM.
