Howdy.

I've had this '03 GT Moto Frame for a very long time now. It's been my only bike since 2008-ish and it's done thousands of miles on-road, off-road, off.. things. Etc etc. Haven't touched / ridden my bike in a very, VERY long time so I'm quite out of the loop at the moment I'm terms of parts so I'm looking for some advice on how I can go about getting this back into serviceable order.

Pics show most of the parts, it's been sitting for about 6 years doing nothing. But in a nutshell:

  • Shimano XT Shifters / Derail – seized probably
  • Hone cranks – probably still fine, they're indestructible right? Along with the BB? >_>
  • Hayes Stroker Ryde hydro discs (seized-ish)
  • Hussefelt handlebars, cheapo grips
  • cane creek headset of some sort with the old headlock system in place
  • saddle is some gross cheap thing that needs to have been binned 20 years ago
  • Marzocchi DJ03 front forks – they still dampen, however the seals I'm guessing probably won't last much use at this age.
  • chainset and cassette are also Shimano, can't remember if the cass. was 8/9 speed. Think it's 9. But they're done and will need swapping out.
  • 26" Mavic wheels with tired DMR

I probably missed a bunch of stuff but yeah. She old and TIRED. I do adore this bike though and I don't want to bin it because also it's just really cool imo.

I don't do much DJ anymore, I'm too old. But the aim is to rebuild it as a commuter / off-road type trails do it all workhorse. I know it's a DJ frame, but the seat-post on this bike goes pretty high up, I get full leg extension so MAX POWER through the cranks. I used to be able to keep up with race bikes on the road with ease. That's why I adore the frame it's just so versatile.

Anyways TL;DR:

I'd love some ideas for current / modern parts that I could use to bring it back to life. What's in, what doesn't exist anymore. I know 26" isn't a standard anymore? Right? It's been a while..

Thanks!

  1. Oh also, forgot to mention I built this bike myself over MANY iterations, so I feel confident carrying out this work myself, I’ve just been out of the bike world for like 10 years now! And based in the UK!
