I posted an earlier iteration of this bike maybe only a week ago, but I got some time on it this week and wasn’t real pleased with how it rode. So, today, I threw a new stem and set of bars with way more back sweep on there (Wald 898) and that was a massive improvement. I keep thinking I want at least one bike with a more hunched over position, but I think I’m just deluding myself at this point. I also fell victim to Maxxis’ legendary quality control and had to swap out the DTH on the front for something a little more circular.

Nice! Been thinking about the 898’s myself. Do you find the big shift in positioning changes how your current saddle feels? Given how it will change where you are sitting/placing pressure.

  2. Love to see it!! I put 898s on both mine (’95 Bontrager) and my partner’s bikes (’91 Klein Pinnacle) back in the spring. They are both so damn comfortable to ride now. A little unwieldy in the garage tho. I’m considering bending mine just a smidge but I haven’t worked up the courage quite yet.
