I recently got back into biking after a 30-year break. At first, I tried a Trek Domane+ AL (58”) and rode about 200 miles, but the size was wrong and I just didn’t like the feel. Then I tested a Checkpoint carbon gravel bike, but quickly realized I didn’t have the leg strength for it (I’m 50, male, haven’t biked in decades). Since my main goal is to ride an hour+ daily to help manage diabetes, I decided I needed pedal-assist.

That led me to the Trek Domane+ ALR. My first one had issues (missing chainring bolt and squeaky rear brake), so I swapped it for another. This one also made some cracking noises in high gear without assist, but after a shop visit (regreased & tightened everything), it’s running perfectly.

Now the ride is awesome. Smooth, responsive, and in my hilly area the pedal assist is a total game changer. In the past few days I’ve been riding 25–30 miles at an average of 16–17 mph, and it feels like the right balance of effort + support.

Really glad I stuck it out and landed on the Domane+ ALR — it seems perfect for my fitness and health goals.
