Today I had to carry that empty bucket that is too large to fit in my bike bags. I just attached it to my bag and I was high and stable enough to not cause any cause during my ride. The side effect is that drivers passing me used more distance than usual when doing so. I might just take that bucket with me everywhere I go.

I know folks who stick a pool noodle across the back of their bikes for the same effect.
Unfortunately, whenever I’m carrying something large, that’s the one time I get bullied by SUVs, including men deliberately swerving their oversized metal peepee-measuring tank and missing me by an inch.
I do this with my softball bat strapped to the cargo rack
I have a 1.35 metre horizontal flag mounted on my pannier rack which I find is effective at increasing my visibility whilst riding on the road and reducing dangerous close passes. It’s a $10 fishing rod wrapped in flouro tape.
