RD hanger is breaking in small pieces and looks chewed up. Brand new bike, 500 miles in. SRAM Force AXS. I have only taken the wheel out about 3 times. Once to try Wahoo Kickr, two other times to transport or service. Did not ride the Wahoo more than 5 minutes…so doubt it was that, unless of course it was put wrong.

Other possibilities: I am super clumsy at removing the wheel and may have jammed it against the hanger. Last option: I've left my bike in the hot sun, part of that plastic almost melted.

Should I replace? Does this or will this affect shifting? Any idea welcome on what could have happened here…thanks

  1. A lot of the times the stock UDH is made of plastic for certain parts, I would personally replace it with a metal one from wheels MFG or NSB

Removing the wheel has no effect on the derailleur hanger, it just seems like this one made with crap material. Get a new hanger and you’re set.

Although replacing the hanger is the solution I would wonder about the cause. Looks like the hanger was moving and grinding against something.

I think it just looks like shitty casting from when it was made, seems cosmetic
