The rush was real this morning — I woke up at my campsite, packed my gear, and had to cycle hard to catch the ferry from Dover to Calais. Missing it would’ve thrown my whole trip off schedule. Thankfully, I made it with just enough time to board, and before I knew it, I was watching the White Cliffs disappear behind me. 🚴♂️⏱️
This isn’t just any ride. I’m cycling all the way from Ireland to Italy for a friend’s wedding in the north of the country. The plan is simple: ride the Velo Route through France, cross into Switzerland, and drop down into Italy — all with my panniers, tent, and camp stove. Every day brings a new challenge, whether it’s a tight ferry connection, a scorching afternoon, or finding the perfect wild camp spot.
My first night in France didn’t disappoint — just outside Calais, I found a quiet place to pitch my tent, cooked dinner under the stars, and listened to the distant hum of passing trains. This is why I love bikepacking: the mix of movement, problem-solving, and small moments you can’t plan.
If you’re into long-distance cycling, solo travel, or just the raw truth of life on the road, stick around for the next parts of this journey. I’ll be sharing daily updates, from camp kitchens in random fields to epic mountain climbs. And if you haven’t seen the earlier videos in this series, check them out — they set the stage for the miles ahead.

Ireland to Italy. Day nine of cycling from Ireland to Italy for my friend’s wedding. In today’s leg, I was getting the boat from Dover to Calala. So, after an hour and a half boat journey, I landed in France. The coast of France is spectacular with many tourists and cycle routes. After a few hours, I left Calala in search of a camp spot. Be sure to subscribe so you don’t miss out on the adventure. Let’s go.
