  1. Focus on things that spin. Pull the wheels apart, remove the bearings and dried out grease, replace with new bearings and new grease. Cost will be $30 and $10 for tools. This is the biggest bang for the buck you can get on an old bike.

    Replace the chain. for $15 and $10 in tools.

    It will be like riding a new bike.

    The chainstay brake is sweet. Nice color too. I don’t think you overpaid. A bike for $100 in this economy is a victory. That’s a loaded basket at a grocery store if you’re leaving with a bottle of wine.
