I’m riding my bicycle around the world. In this video I’m taking my bicycle on Brittany Ferry to go from Plymouth England to Roscoff France.
Do you really think we get to go next? Yes. Oh, good. Thank you. Where do I go? Okay, great. Thank you. How’s this work? Good evening. Good evening. So, what do I do? Uh, you can just like this and take me and then Okay. It’s a lot of bikes. All right. So, that’s a lot of bikes. Heading inside now. So this is the Brittany fairies and I’m going to Roskoth, France from Plymouth, England. And yeah, they treated us they treated bicycles like cars, so we had to line up with the cars. It’s the first time I’ve had to do that, but it went okay. Um, it was raining, but there was a little place where we could wait. All right. Well, I’m going to I’ll check in later. Show you my spot. Good morning. I’m not quite in France yet, and I don’t know what day this is. I took a few days off in Plymouth, so I don’t know whether to start back at 1 now that I’m in the going to be in the EU or to add to the days that I had before. So maybe I’ll maybe I’ll call it day 36, I think. Anyhow, we’ll do that. Um, so I had a good night’s sleep. I kind of made myself a little cubby hole here. I don’t know if you can see this because of the sun. Um, I had a reserved seat, but it wasn’t very comfortable. And there was this area that had electrical outlets so I could keep my phone charged. So, I decided that I would make a little nest here. And a couple of other people did this a similar thing on other benches. Um, so yeah, I had a actually a surprisingly good night’s sleep and um I think we’re supposed to arrive in Rosco, France at 10:15 and I’m not sure if that’s British time or if it is um um French time. So maybe 9:15 and get through customs and then I’m going to start riding on the Eurov1 and heading south. So I will uh probably check in when I start rolling my bike out of the boat and um show you that process. Although I guess I’ll have to cut you off for customs and border control that stuff. So all right. Anyhow, I’ll see you then. I’m rambling. This looks like the duty-free area. And then down here there is a cinema and more seating. Um, I think the the cinema cost extra, but the movies started like 15 minutes after we set sail. And there doesn’t seem to be very many people on this boat, so I’m assuming that it um is not full. So, this is where I had breakfast. Hi. Hi. And uh my seat that I reserved was actually in that area, but I was much more comfortable with the free seat. If we go up, I think there’s a dining room up here, and I think they serve bigger meals. I just went for the express breakfast, which was a croissant, a juice, and coffee. But yeah, there’s more people up here. A bigger eating area there if you wanted a full breakfast. That’s the breakfast I had. I think the decks that are above this are like rooms and I did not rent a room because they were sold out and now that I’ve experienced sleeping all night, I’m glad I didn’t rent a room. So, this is um essentially I think floors six and seven that I’m walking around and so I’m back on the floor where I was. One cool thing about this floor, if you have kids, I guess, is they have like this little arcade that was going strong last night until about 10:30 and then they cut it off um and made everybody go to bed. There is um nice outdoor seating as well. I think on this level and the next level up, there’s places to sit outside and enjoy the view. [Music] So, uh, yeah, it’s very nice. I I have enjoyed my ride on the Britany fairies. Like I said, it was a little didn’t necessarily like the way they had me load my bike, but uh after that, everything’s gone well. And um you can see here that there’s the mainland. So, we’re about to land in France. I think we have about 30 35 minutes before we’re supposed to land. So, yeah, that’s a just a real quick ferry tour. I’m sure that I’m missing some things, but these are the parts of the ferry that I was on, and I don’t want to stay away from my bags too long. So, this is this is what I can show you. [Music] [Applause] I haven’t done enough [Music] [Music] Good morning. [Music] Oh my goodness. That’s awesome. [Music] Wow. [Music] I don’t think it might [Music] [Music] [Music] Thank you. Mercy. Got to adjust. She’s passing on the left. So now I have to adjust to drive to riding on the right hand side of the road again. It’s like being at home, isn’t it? Yeah, it is. So I thought you’ll be fine. Yeah, I had a couple of near misses riding on the wrong side of the road when I started. So So now hopefully I adjust quickly. I’m sure you will be all right. No idea. [Laughter] You’re all right. You’re all right. What’s the worst that can happen? I got the sea behind you. Probably going right. But I get I ride I ride to work once or twice a week. I live in Devon. You Deon? No. Well, oh, okay. I I live about 15 miles from work. I ride a couple times a week. My eyes get really cold, extremely so it’s just the job. That’s what stupid I say anything that works. No, I No, I don’t go fast. No, it’s they streamline round it. See, it’s like it’s perfect. The part of Devon I went through was very hilly. Yeah. Yeah, that’s some tough terrain. My wife and I are both big runners. Uh she she’s an ultr runner. I’m not quite that level. But so we run in Devon. Then we’re going to a big race in London which is flat and it just feels so easy. Yeah. Nice. Beautiful bit hilly. Wales. Yeah. Actually I I found Wales kind of easier. Yeah. You know, it was like the part of the Breham Beacons that I went over went over um I’m forgetting the name of the pass now, but it uh it was more gradual. And then I got to Devon and it was like straight up. It is like that. Yeah, it is. So, are you on a reg old journey around lots of countries then? Yeah. Yeah. Trying to go around the world, I think. Oh, wow. But I say that quietly. I’m not, you know, it’s that’s a big claim. I’m barely into it. But I started at John Gros. Okay. And so I’ve been through Scotland, Northern Ireland, Ireland, um, Wales, England. You know, I’m still trying to decide. I’m I’m for it to be official around the world, you have to have two spots that are anti-potal that are opposite, which so I’m kind of leaning toward going toward Madrid because Madrid and Wellington, New Zealand are opposites and there are not a whole lot of places on the globe where land is opposite. Okay. Yeah. Yeah. And so, yes, I think I’m do going to do the Eurova1 and then cut across the Pyrenees where the Camino Frances does. your kit down to like the most perfect setup, right? Well, you’re light. I’m I’m more of the backpacker treker. So, it’s kind of modified from that. So, this is actually my frameless backpack cuz I was backpacking for a month before I got my bike and started doing this. Have you got camping? Yes. So, I got a tent and uh Yeah, sleeping bag. Yeah. And then this is sleeping bag and pad. So, which came in very handy on the boat cuz I didn’t get a cabin. Oh, yeah. That’s brutal. I didn’t sleep well in my cabin. Well, I actually slept pretty well with my setup, so it was It wasn’t bad. Yeah. Great. Well, have an amazing adventure. Oh, well, thank you. You, too. Thank you. We don’t go very Doesn’t matter. glasses only sunglasses. Okay, thank you. These are actually real glasses, but they do have a tent to them. I can’t read. I can’t see without them. Where are you going? I am going to ride the Eurov1 down and then cut across the Pyrenees over into Spain. Uh eventual goal is to get to IstAbul. Okay. Thank you. Thank you. Have a good trip. Thank you.

Love the ferry! It’s like an airport! The woman you were talking to waiting to go through customs had so much stuff on her bike! Do you know where she was going? I didn’t hear if she said. That was a great report.
How fun to go across on the ferry. We rode on that same line when we travelled from UK to Normandy a few years back. Interesting how many other cyclists were onboard. I had not been on a ferry of that size and was pleasantly surprised by how fully outfitted it was and all the services, to include a movie. Glad your trip on it went smoothly.
