  1. Yet the Netherlands kill twice as many cyclists each year as the UK, with a total population 1/4 of the UK, and roughly equivalent cycling populations…

  2. Whatever you can do Chris, to improve cycling infrastructure in the U.K. will be a blessing 👍 I can email my local council every day, but we need some real persuasive talent.

  3. Why are all cycling related videos taken on dry, warm, sunny days? I prefer riding my bike in town but the last thing I want on a cold and rainy winter is hopping on it. Public transport isn't available everywhere unfortunately, not like local bus timetables would even slightly be reliable.

  4. the young Ladies in Holland are fit and healthy and enjoy 'Shexuality' ….contrasted to the bags in Britain are fat spotty and walk round eating from Bags of 'Monstermunch'….- a Tale of two different societies !!!!!

  5. He is spearheading a campaign in the UK to get more people walking and cycling. Best of luck with that mate. Nothing will make me take up cycling. As for walking I only walk when I have to. Give me four wheels with a box on top (car) everytime. It's warmer, quicker and a damn site safer than cycling on the road.

  6. What's a shame is that we in Britain could copy the Dutch cycling infrastructure and laws, but I doubt, as a nation, we could copy their attitude. The Dutch evidently wanted to move to less car-centric travel in the '70s, but does Britain want to do that now? I don't think so. Not all of us. Definitely not even a majority of us. Hopefully that will change as older generations of Brits without the right attitude give way to younger generations who realise the importance of reducing travel by car for a variety of reasons, not just congestion and safety. Having enjoyed cycling around much of the Netherlands, I look forward to a time when cycling in the UK will be as enjoyable.

  7. I think cycling in The Netherlands is just a must for shortrange trips, otherwise everyone would be stuck in traffic and lose more time travelling. Many people talk about fresh air and less obesitas, but really, it saves time. And time is money. 😉👍🏻🇳🇱

  8. Why do you care about helmets so much? You want one? Wear it. Dont? Dont. To me its obvious choice to do so. Low risk high reward. Also I dont have that much hair left, maybe thats your main issue to be completely honest

  9. “Car free Sundays” were introduced because the Middles East applied a ban on oil exports to Holland due to the Kippur war. Drove once to Brugge to find an hotel and it was a total nightmare. Drove around and around for almost an hour. Most European cities stopped cars on Sundays but returned to normality after the end of the oil ban.

  10. Great vid! The big challenge now is to deal with electrically supported bikes and the speed difference with regular ones. Don’t be surprised if you’re reporting on “bicycle freeways” in a few years…

  11. In the US,there was an organization called," The League of American Wheelmen",which during the 1880's and 1890's,pushed for the paving of roads and highways, but they didn't expect that the Federal Government would get involved in the 1920's,and started the subsidized roads for the automobile/trucks that is prevalent today!! Strangely, without the bicycle, the cars as we know them now, wouldn't exist! Henry Ford,Ransome Olds, and Benz, all based their cars on chassises that were bike derived, and no credit is given by the historians for the origins of the automotive industry! Thank you 😇! 😇 !

  12. This is good, but I was really struck by the difference between the Dutch riders and the shots in Britain. The speed difference and the lack of Lyrca cladding in the shots from the Netherlands was really quite pronounced. Is the UK problem with both motor and pedal power more a question of obsession with speed, the overwhelming need to get everywhere yesterday, and to do it before the other road users?

  13. If I was a bike manufacturer I would develop an updated version of an omafiets…..or maybe a kit for MTB conversion. I am in the process of converting an 80s MTB into a omafiet. Larger seat, taller stem, swallowtail handlebars, one speed, and v brakes, removable fenders. Just go back to manufacturing steel bikes.
