five things I wish we knew before moving to France five bonjour everywhere France is a more formal Society than the US so it’s polite to greet everyone with a proper bonjour four grocery shopping is different in France there aren’t the same big box stores like in the US when grocery shopping in France you’re likely to go more often and to multiple stores like the butcher for your meats and to the market for your fruits and vegetables three apartment hunting is difficult people in France move less frequently in the US so there tends to be fewer options to choose from also some apartments don’t come with kitchen appliances two life is slower in France stores and restaurants tend to close midday for lunch breaks so don’t try to run errands during this time one vacationing in a city is very different from living in it while on vacation shop owners and waiters will likely speak English but go to a doctor’s office or a local store and you’ll likely find yourself struggling to communicate if you don’t speak the language

  1. Try Carrefour grocery store. They are big and carry everything. They have same prices in each store so Monaco has to charge same price as any other store in France.

  2. Why do you wish you knew this before moving ???? Its all over the internet just look it up ,no mystery here ,except for americans who disvover that France is not part of the US.

  3. Most of the people in Europe are intelligent enough to speak few languages but if you are one of these arrogant and ignorant foreigner who think that everyone should be in your service….sory , that cant work.

  4. Uh idk carrefour is my go-to, as I have just moved to France with my family… saw you three + dog on the plane there, and further met up later! Awesome family, keep at it.

If this comment seems creepy, just ah, Elyse and Patrick?

  5. No there s bigs hypermarket in France, littles sores are in the town center, no kichen…of course it was a little appartement usually rent to students. Stop saying rubbishs

  6. Please, stop bothering us with "the French don't speak English", I know several people who have been to the USA, few Americans spoke French!! So your thoughts, you put them where I think! It's getting annoying, the world doesn't revolve around Americans!

  7. If you didn't know thoses 5 things before to MOVE, it means you moved without doing ANY research beforehand……
Anyway, who'd thought that speaking French in France would be more than helpful ??? LOL
If you really moved to France in thoses conditions, i'm not sure you're a gift to this nice country…

  8. The have hypermarkets all over France they are gigantic stores selling literally everything clothes electronics groceries garden stuff etc

  9. What a load of rubbish.
France ……Euromarché …..is one of the world leaders as far as supermarkets go. If memory serves, their first hyper market opened in the late 60 early 70.
Most French people go to the supermarket ……and there are a whole bunch of them….Leclerc, Lidl, Franprix……Super U…….ans no……there isn’t this super long lunch break.
It really irks me to see this Anglo American videos describing this country like the paradise it is not.
The country is plagued by crime, drug trafficking and this now regardless of where. Even provincial cities are at the hands of drug dealers.
Communitarianism is another plague with entire districts populated by migrants ……mostly Muslims.
The red inefficient tape we have to put up with is a nightmare and the state is basically bankrupt.
So stay the fck away if it is to make pathetic Emily in France videos.

  10. It’s called community based living and it’s fantastic actually getting to know your neighbours by their name and maybe even their families
