Absolute bummer. Unfortunately, that cable lock is prone to that failure.

Was it a beater commuter or an expensive bike (the former being that perhaps the loss is a bit less of a heartache)?

Cable locks are decorative at best

Never leave a bike outside overnight

Get a Kryptonite or Abus U-lock

Bummer, hope it wasn’t too expensive. Lessons learned: never leave your bike outside, never use a cable lock. Even a high quality lock won’t stop a highly motivated thief, but this cable lock is about the least deterring lock apart from a wire lock.

That’s okay I’ve seen this before when posting this, someone will gift you one. Soon.

  5. Sorry to hear that. I’ve had the same thing happen with a car. It really sucks. I hope that you find a good replacement and it does not put you in too much of a financial pinch.

I wonder if the thief used safety scissors or nail clippers to break that.. guess we’ll never know.

So sorry for your loss. Getting a bike stolen is such a personal and helpless feeling.

I highly recommend investing in a litelock U-lock. Has saved my bike more than once (I can see on the lock where people have tried to cut it with an angle grinder and failed/gave up lol)

Sorry you’re going through this. Been there before and it feels violating. I learned the hard way also that cable locks are extremely easy to cut. Even if your bike wasn’t locked at all though it would still feel shitty. Good luck to you

Oh man. Sorry bro. Thieves are complete ASSHOLES. They have zero conscience and inflated egos. I hope the rest of your week goes better….

  10. cable locks are decorative at best. i would dig a burmese tiger trap next to you bikes in the future.

  11. Damn, I’m sorry this happened, that really sucks. Hope you can get a new one soon. Like others said, get a kryptonite, they vary in price so you don’t need to get the $150 ones to have some good safety in place. You can also AirTag it and hide it in different accessories.

Well at least you will get respect from here for properly locking your bike since they had to cut the lock and you are not holding a perfectly fine lock with a front wheel in your hands.

  13. Hope your home insurance covers it. Tell them it was in a shed.
Security shackle bolted to a wall and a New York U lock would be handy.
You can get expensive locks and chains second hand way cheaper on eBay.

Thieves 100% suck. I keep mine inside, but if that’s not an option, maybe a U-lock and/or a motion detector hooked up to a bright light? Anyway, it still sucks and so do assholes that steal. Sorry.

We have the same bike lock!

To me it’s always been more of *”please don’t steal this bike*” gesture, than anything actually secure
